Small Puzzles 2

In 2011, Wenchung Lin based on the same concepts of a toy-block stage to present Dance With Toy Blocks, the family version of Small Puzzles.
In 2011, WCdance published the first family dance piece Dance With Toy Blocks at Taipei Cultural Center.
In Dance With Toy Blocks, an artistic extension of Small Puzzles, Wenchung Lin elaborates the ideas of the blocks on stage and rearranges the structure.  If we describe the theme of Small Puzzles as the “poetic geometrics,” then Dance With Toy Blocks is about the “imagination of geometrics.”

Like others works of the Small Series, Dance With Toy Blocks features precise choreographical structure and quality, as it intergrates language with the physical movements.  Dancers are playing with exercise balls, the new props on stage, and dancing with blocks which are 15 times larger.  In the constantly changing geometric space, human bodies and the geometric shapes develop a montage of wonderful visual iamges.  A newsreader is annoucing recent news stories for some changes, inviting audience to step into the imagination world of geometrics where both adults and kids reexplore the fascination of modern dance and the messages it carries.

Wenchung Lin believes that it is not necessary for adults to bombard kids, who are sensitive enough, with overwhelming visual and audio information. The purity of physical aesthetics can be “felt” by children.  Therefore, Dance With Toy Blocks avoids the festive and exciting atmosphere which is commonly see in children’s theatre but offers them the aesthetics of modern dance through music, rhythm, physical appearances, and space changes.
